The event commenced on a warm, summer’s evening in Cambridge. The location was Christ’s College in Cambridge, a famous old college that numbers John Milton and Charles Darwin amongst its alumni. The guests included this years students together with academic staff and invited guests including Mark Howard of RSA, the sponsors of the Dissertation Excellence Award.

Everyone convened in The Fellow’s Garden for a convivial drinks reception prior to the call for dinner in Christ’s Dining Hall. Following an excellent meal , Professor Chris Lowe OBE, Director of the Institute of Biotechnology welcomed the gathering and thanked everyone for attending. He then provided an overview of the Award including one of it’s key objectives of fostering a spirit of entrepreneurial flair. He then introduced Dr Andy Sandham, CEO of Kymab who gave the keynote address and Dr Darrin Disley who commented on the Carpe Diem Charitable Trust.

In addition, gifts were made to MBE course contributors and MBE Distinction Awards to three of the outstanding students. One of these, Dr Darryl Gibbings-Isaac also received the RSA Dissertation Excellence award presented by Mark Howard. A thoroughly pleasant evening and one in which RSA are delighted to participate.
